Hi! I’m John. I’ve been behind a camera since the '80s when my dad let me try his new camcorder. Since then I’ve directed and/or done cinematography on national TV commercials, documentaries, music videos, branded content, live performances and, most recently, products.
I love all things image-related. I’ve been full time freelancing since 2008 so at this point no budget is too big or too small. I’m interested in all of it. I can scale down to a micro crew setup for travel work or scale up to full sized crews for big commercial productions. And anything in between.
I love the variety that cinematography offers: sometimes you need a bright, happy aesthetic (I call this “funlight”); sometimes you need dark and gritty; sometimes you need to shoot on location; sometimes you need to shoot in studio. Every project, location, product and subject is a new challenge and chance to come up with the right solution.
In my free time, I enjoy hanging out with my wife and kids, making music, creating 3D animations (Blender, Unreal), learning Python, honing AI image tech, and, most recently, diving into robotics.
